I read that DV files over 18 minutes on a hard disk have to NFTS file system since that on a typical windows system , a disk usually is set up to a FAT 32. Also the max file size is 4Gigabytes for a FAT 32 system.

If I have a system with 2 Hard drives, Can I have my Editing program and other programs like titlers and windows on my primary drive as fat32. Then have my Videos and photos on a SECOND DRIVE WITH IT BEING NFTS OR possibly a external USB Drive instead with NFTS with my video files.

Would be Better? to have it all NFTS, and still use it as a general home computer. Problems?

I have a system with FAT32 & NTFS, and it works okay.

I bought a 250gb external hard drive, which works fine.
There are some external hard drives that don't work at speeds quick enough for video editing, so I went for one specially advertised for video editing.

The internal ones are generally cheaper, and you, in general, don't need to check that they are speedy enough, because I think most are.

Hope this helps.

Peace. Cool

To "twiga "
Thanks for your reply.
I was wondering if some was going to answer my question, your answer is appreciated.

A couple of weekes ago I saw a hard drive on sale, a 300GB Western digital (although only 8mb buffer and Ulta ATA100). I think it was $130 after rebates. I would have perfer a 16Mb buffer and perhaps at least a UltaATA 133, but at that price and I wanted to get my system ready for longer video projects.

The drive, I tried in firewire drive enclosure by playing a captured file, it would sometimes lockup. So, my alternate plan I went to, which I like that I did it.

I have second harddisk controller for drives up to ATA133 or serial 133.
So I hooked it up to that and it works fine.

I deceided to partition the drive as 1/2 NTFS and the 2nd as Fat32.
I am running Windows Me and Xp profession on my Main hard drive, 2 partitions. It works ok, I have some older programs for Windows Me.

Thanks again.
