I am trying to transfer an older VHS video tape from my new JVC SuperVHS ET deck #HR-S5902 to my HP Pavilion portable computer model # zx5190us using the ADS PYRO A/V LINK and Adove Premier Elements software ver 1.0. I had to use a 4pin male to 6pin female 1394 adaptor in order to connect the 6pin firewire output from the A/V LINK to the 4pin input on my computer. The computer has an 80MB hard drive with plenty of space available and has a data transfer rate of 100MB/sec. There is also 2 MB of memory installed. I even downloaded the Windows XP SP2 patch to fix the 1394 firewire problem listed on the ADS web site and still can't get a smooth video transfer either when capturing or playing back the captured video. There are so may video drop outs - the video plays, stops for a second, then plays stops for a second, and so on. The same thing occurs when I have tried to use the video capture in other programs such as Windows Movie Maker, Roxio and others. The video is also playing on an attached monitor which is error free all throughout the capture process. I am not sure if this will help, but the video card in the computer is an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 IGP with 64MB of dedicated DDR video memory. I have spoken directly with an ADS technician and he claims this is a video tape problem and not an equipment problem. I am having understanding this because the video monitor playback is perfect with no dropouts or video problems noticeable. I would like to know if anyone else has had this problem and might have a suggestion or two on how to correct or avoid the drop outs during capture. Could the Super VHS tape recorder I am using to play back the tapes have something to do with this?
