Hey guys,

I am a qualified media practitioner who is just strating off with video editing. I took the decision to venture into the area, after realizing I couldn't depend on others ... most people promise but have no time to deliver. I therefore have to now tackle the editing side of things as well.

Cut a long story short, I have taken some classes in video editing. I want to produce a professional-level doco but before I invest in hardware/software I wanted the honest opinion of a pro in the industry: which program do you recommend out of all the leading ones?

Thanks guys, really appreciate your time and help. I really need it and value it more than I can say. Wink

Best to ya all,

Maria.

I am not a proffessional editor, but I have been using various pieces of software over the last few years. Initially these were PC based Pinnicle 7 & 8. I had lots of trouble with these once my projects were over over 20 minuites, the PC would crash / lockup.

I next asked a Pinincle forum what hardware would be recommend, I purchased all the required hardware to build a custom PC. This was better but still crashed and I was always waiting for this to happen when rendering a large project.

Eventually a friend showed me iMovie on his G3 MAC, until this point my feet were firmly in th PC camp. All I can say is wow... The features were not as advanced as Pininicle but it WORK no crashing, just drag, drop, clip, add effects and create a movie. Then using iDVD create the DVD menu's.

Since then I have bought my own MAC and have not looked back since, initially I bought Final Cut Express which is aimed at the 'true' proffessionals. This is excellent, it does what its says and does NOT crash. However with subsequent releases if iMovie I find my self using this more often.

I recently have purchased a G3 second hand laptop, and this is a person who 24 months ago would not even look at a MAC.

I must honostly say if the main application is Video editting buy a MAC.

Regards

Rob
