I shot our vacation on a Sony digicam (DVtape) in Wideview (16:9) format. Looks great on our HDTV using the camcorder but I can't seem to copy/edit anything to a DVD in this format. Is widescreen a function of the computer video card or the editing software? Any movies in widescreen look fine on this pc. Using Pinnacle Studio Plus 10.5.
thanks for any help .....

You may need a video editing program like Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 to edit your footage. HD contains huge amounts of information and is very demanding on your machine. It's like comparing a Jumbo Jet with an Lear Jet. To be able to play back HD footage for example 720 50p (that's a resolution of 1280x720 and 50 frames per second progressive) your system has to have the following minimum configuration: 2.4 Ghz processor (duo preferred), 384 MB of RAM, 64 MB Video Card, 1024x768 screen resolution and a 16 bit sound card.
The optimum configuration, if you want to play back 1080 60i (resolution 1920x1080), i stands for interlaced, you need DirectX 9.0, a 3.0 Ghz processor, 512 Mb of RAM, 128 Mb Video Card, 1920x1440 monitor resolution, 24-bit 96 khz multichannel sound card as well as a 5.1 surround speaker system.
Most software have not yet adapted to HD.

Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere Pro, both can handle the SD and HD editing and very easy to use.
