Mini dvd disk

I have a sony dvd405 that I record on to mini-disks. After finalizing my disk, is it possible to use the disk in my dvd burner on my pc as the source or does all the video editing software require the camcorder be used to transfer the data from the mini-disk? Also, does the leading video editing software allow me to watch movies on dvd on my pc also? (right now, I have no software that will do that. It says I do not have a valid decoder)
