Problem in starting EZDV

I'm pretty new to DV editing and trying to get into it. I'm currently using, or should i say trying to use EZDV. i have a slight problem trying to initiate the software. The error message is the hardware is not found or is not functioning properly. i have the firewire port in my com (hopefully this means the video capture card is already in place).

would anybody advice me on what i shd do to get the software working?
