The large, high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching any kind of video: from HD movies and TV shows to podcasts and music videos. This guide shows the way for converting DVD to iPad, iPod video formats using two ways.
How to convert DVD to iPad, put DVD on iPad, iPod
1. FREE solution - DVD Decrypter + Free iPad converter (freeware while difficult)
Two products are needed. Rip DVD to a big VOB file first using the former, then convert VOB to iPad using the latter. This twice conversion mode will cost much more time.
2. Best Solution - iPad Converter Suite (best way, fast speed and high quality)
Straight convert DVD movie and videos to iPad (H.264 HD, MPEG-4, H.264, MP4, MP3 or AAC).
Tip: What type of TV shows and videos can be played on iPad?
* Support for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable
* H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

Best solution: Use DVD to iPad Converter
1. Download DVD to iPad conversion software for free and install it to your computer.
2. Launch DVD to iPad Converter, choose the output format you like from "profile".
Optional: You can also set the encode speed and the output folder for saving the converted iPad files.
3. Insert DVD into your DVD drive, open DVD by hitting "Load DVD" button, and choosing "Load DVD", "Load DVD IFO" or "Load DVD folder".
4. Set the language (audio track), subtitle and the start point you'd like to convert, then click "Start".
5. After converting, you can play the output file using Quicktime or iTunes. If it is OK, just transfer it to iPad via iTunes.
Now, you can watch DVD on iPad anywhere and anytime.
Freeware: Use DVD decrypter + Free iPad video converter
Part1. Rip DVD to hard drive
1. Download the DVD ripper and free iPad video converter, install it to your computer and run it.
2. Place the DVD you want to rip your video from into your DVD drive.
3. Go to the Mode menu and select IFO I mode. This will give you access to two new tabs; Input & Stream Processing.
4. Go to the Tools menu, select Settings, go to the IFO tab, then under Options, change File Splitting to None and press OK.
5. Go to the main screen and click the Stream Processing tab. Enable it and only select the first video listed. Note that home encoded movies do not support subtitles of any kind and that your file can only have one type of audio.
6. Start ripping.
Part 2: Convert ripped video to iPad
7. Download free iPad video converter and launch. Press 'Convert' button, and click 'Video File' link.
8. The iPod Converter freeware has two ways of converting videos, Normal Mode and Power Mode. The former can only be used online, while the latter can be used both online and offline. Let's take Power Mode for example.
9. Click the "Select File" button to choose the video you want to convert. If you want to change the location of where your converted video will be located, click the "Browse" button.
10. If you want to change the title of your converted video, edit the "Title" text box. If you want to access another device's profiles, change the "Device" combo box. Select the encoding settings you want by picking an existing or custom profile.
To start your conversion, click the "Start Converting" button.
The free solution need convert twice (DVD to VOB, and VOB to iPad). First of all, you have to rip DVD into one big file with free DVD rippers such as DVD Decrypter, then convert the ripped file to iPad playable files. There is no doubt that this will waste more time than the straight DVD to iPad conversion mode. Furthermore, the free iPad movie conversion software does not encoding in a batch.
